The Christmas Appeal

The Trust raises money each year through its Christmas Appeal envelopes.  A quite remarkable £50,797, including £8,997 Gift Aid Tax reclaim from HM Government, was received in December 2016 and this will provide over 50% of the budgeted expenditure on helping individuals and families in Harpenden through our Care Fund.  Maintaining that level of income from the Appeal is crucial to the Trust’s work of Helping Harpenden People in Need.

None of the money raised by the Christmas Appeal goes to help local community groups.  They are supported by the Trust’s Community Fund, which is separately financed by income from the Abbeyfield Benefaction.

To achieve this we are totally reliant on volunteer collectors.  Each December more than 220 collectors drop off an envelope at almost every house in Harpenden and collect them.  But inevitably, each year we lose some collectors and there are still roads without collectors.  So we are always in need of more volunteers for this very seasonal, but vital, job.
