“I first heard about the Harpenden Trust through a good friend who also volunteers. I was interested in getting involved in a new volunteering opportunity. During Covid I was involved in cooking for the NHS Doctors and Nurses which was very rewarding. However, I was keen to do some face to face volunteering when it was available. I spent several years being head of the school PTA and I missed the opportunity to be useful and give my skills on a voluntary basis.
I met with the People Director in September 2022 and we talked about the opportunities available. Initially, I worked on the Minibus Project before handing it over to the new Minibus Team. I am a keen amateur photographer so I was tasked with setting up a Photo Library and archive of images for the Trust. This took a lot of co-ordination with various people around the Trust but gave me a really great insight into all of the projects and good that the Trust does.
My main volunteering focus has been the Well Bean Café. I really enjoy the sociability of this volunteering role and learning new skills with the coffee machine! It’s great to get to know other volunteers and also interact with customers who visit for a fresh coffee and home-made cake. I am partial to baking too so often that ties in nicely.
Outside of the Trust I have lots of hobbies. I like to keep busy and support my parents, family and friends. I love to ride my bike, go the gym, walking/hiking, practise my photography skills and sing in the St Albans Rock Choir. I really enjoy trying to learn new skills and recently rekindled my knitting skills. Next challenge is to learn to crochet!
I look forward to being more involved with the Trust as time permits.“
