James is one of our youngest volunteers and a valued member of our Befriending team. Here, he explains why he chose to give time to the Harpenden Trust ....
“I am currently in my Lower Sixth year, studying Economics, History and Philosophy. Outside of school, I am a keen tennis and golf player. I have been volunteering with the Harpenden Trust for around one month. I was inspired to work with the Trust because I have always been interested in doing some form of volunteering work but was never old enough to help in the way I wanted to. When I was finally old enough, I knew it had to be with a local organisation, which made the Harpenden Trust the perfect choice for me. I went onto the website and applied. Within a day I received a happy and welcoming response, with options as to what I could do to help. I chose Befriending as I saw it as the best role for me. It was the perfect choice. I love meeting up each week to go for a walk with the person I was partnered with. It offers me the chance to meet and talk with someone I would never have met otherwise. If you are thinking of volunteering with the Harpenden Trust, you 100% should as it is a way of giving to your local community but also gives you something back in return.”
