New Outdoor Space and Sensory Trail and Garden at Fusion Pre-school

In September 2022 Fusion, the Community Pre-school in Southdown, moved from the Methodist Church Halls to St Johns Church, also in Southdown, ensuring a continuation of the facilities provided for 2-4 year olds in the Southdown area. This involved making the area outside of the church hall suitable for all the children and ensured it complied with OFSTED’s health & safety and safeguarding standards. To further enhance this outdoor space an all-weather surface has been installed with a sensory trail and garden plus an outside shelter so children can play in all weathers. The result is an outdoor space inclusive for all children and particularly those children with Special Development Needs to enhance their development.

The Community Fund of the Harpenden Trust has been delighted to have been able to contribute to this project which is already proving to be of a great benefit to the children at the pre-school.

"Fusion Pre-school are extremely grateful to the Harpenden Trust for their grant towards making the garden at St John’s Church an all-weather and multi-sensory play space for all users. This will make a huge difference to children’s play opportunities and allow children to have safe access to the outdoor space", Rebecca and Tracy Wilkins, Pre-School Leader and owner.
